Information individual contractors want from BIM
Reviewing the (Eastman, Teicholz, Sacks, & Liston, 2008) I pointed out
several information types which the contractor want to acquire for detailed estimating,
scheduling, construction planning, manufacturing, transportation, and other
functions.
- Detailed building information or in other words accurate 3D model that provides ability to extract the building components quantity and their property information.
- Temporary components such as equipment, formwork and others that are critical for specific construction phases (for example scaffolding).
- Specification information associated with each building component. Each building component should contain a link to specifications which contractor must follow.
- Analysis data related to performance levels and project requirements. Additional more accurate data for fabrication and MEP detailing such as structural loads, heating and cooling loads and etc.
- Time information of building component. Planed time of each building components transportation, installation and testing if needed for time estimating and coordinating it with other individual contractors.
But can individual contractors really get the information from BIM
model?
